Tarkine

The Tarkine contains an extraordinary expanse of temperate forest - Australia's largest rainforest wilderness and one of the greatest remaining tracts of temperate rainforest in the world. Extending for 70 kilometres from the Arthur River to the Pieman River, the rainforest encompasses more than a dozen major river systems including the Huskisson, Wilson, Kieth, Savage, Donaldson and Rapid.

But mining exploration licences cover much of the Tarkine and in the next five years there are ten new mines proposed, nine of which are Pilbara-style open cut mines. One of these mines is proposed for superb rainforest at Mt Lindsay, at the southern edge of the Tarkine.
